Muntins are structural elements that divide window panes into smaller sections, known as lights. The term comes from the German word Sprosse, meaning rung. Why are muntins used in windows and doors with glazing? In the past, technological limitations prevented the production of large glass panes, so muntins were necessary to increase the glazed area in windows. Today, with the ability to create large panes, their main function is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of windows. Windows with muntins emphasize the elegance, luxury, and prestige of a building.
1. Structural (fixed) muntins
Structural muntins are true divisions of the window. They are made from the same material as the window frame—wood, PVC, or aluminum. Each section divided by muntins is filled with a separate pane, giving the window an authentic, classic look.
- Durability and solid construction.
- Classic, elegant appearance.
2. Applied muntins
Applied muntins are mounted directly onto the surface of the glass, both on the inside and outside. This solution imitates the look of structural muntins but is cheaper and lighter.
A wide range of veneers and the entire RAL color palette are available. PVC applied muntins are available in three widths: 23 mm, 33 mm, and 43 mm, and some types allow the use of Acrycolor® technology.
In our offer, we have wooden windows with an aluminum cladding, where it is possible to use wooden muntins in any color on the inside and aluminum muntins in any color on the outside.
- Aesthetic visual effect without dividing the pane.
- Possibility of installation on existing windows.
3. Viennese muntins
Viennese muntins are a unique solution that combines applied muntins with additional frames placed inside the insulated glass unit. This type of muntin perfectly imitates classic divisions while providing modern technical solutions.
In our offer, we have wooden windows with an aluminum cladding, where it is possible to use wooden muntins in any color on the inside and aluminum muntins in any color on the outside.
- Ideal combination of aesthetics and functionality.
- Modern design while maintaining a traditional appearance.
4. Between-the-glass muntins
Between-the-glass muntins are placed between the panes of insulated glass, so they do not interfere with the surface of the outer and inner glass. This solution combines the aesthetics of muntins with ease of maintenance.
A wide range of veneers and the entire RAL color palette are available. Between-the-glass muntins are available in four widths: 8 mm, 18 mm, 26 mm, and 45 mm.
- Easy to clean.
- Aesthetic effect without physically dividing the glass.
- Ideal for modern and minimalist interiors.
