Clean windows are the hallmark of any home. Unfortunately, achieving perfectly clean, streak-free windows can be a challenge. We’ve prepared some proven methods to help you get sparkling windows without unsightly streaks.

Choosing the Right Products

  • Microfiber Cloths: Microfiber cloths are great for cleaning windows because they don’t leave lint behind and absorb water well.
  • Window Squeegee: Professional window squeegees with rubber blades are excellent tools for removing excess water and dirt.
  • Glass Cleaner Spray: Choose a cleaner specifically designed for windows or prepare your own solution (e.g., a mixture of water and vinegar). How to prepare it? Gather the following ingredients and shake well: 1 cup of vinegar, 2 cups of water. Vinegar effectively dissolves dirt and grease and also prevents streaks.

Washing Technique

  • Preliminary Cleaning: If the windows are very dirty, wipe them with a dry cloth first to remove excess dust and dirt.
  • Avoid Direct Sunlight: Wash windows on a cloudy day or when the sun is not shining directly on them, so the solution doesn’t dry too quickly and leave streaks.
  • Thorough Drying: After washing the windows, use a dry, lint-free cloth to polish the glass to ensure there are no streaks.
  • Removing Excess: Use a window squeegee to remove excess water and dirt, starting from the top and moving downward. Remember to wipe the rubber blade of the squeegee after each stroke.

Drying and Polishing

After washing the windows, use a dry microfiber cloth to thoroughly polish the window. Make sure all cleaning solution residues are removed to avoid streaks.

Cleaning Frames and Seals

Don’t forget to clean the window frames and seals. Use a damp microfiber cloth and a mild cleaning agent. Regular cleaning of frames and seals will prevent the buildup of dirt and mold.

Regular Cleaning

Regular window cleaning (at least twice a year) prevents the accumulation of hard-to-remove dirt. The best time to wash windows is on a cloudy day, as direct sunlight can cause the cleaning solution to dry quickly, promoting streaks.

We asked our colleagues in Finance if they had any tips for home window cleaning, and here’s what they gave us:

“I recommend washing with fabric softener. This prevents dust from settling on the windows.”
“I, on the other hand, use Kärcher and wipe with a dry paper towel at the end.”

Clean windows not only provide a better view of the outside world but also allow more natural light into your home. By following these methods, you can easily achieve perfectly clean, streak-free windows. Remember to use the right tools, technique, and cleaning frequency to keep your windows well-maintained and clean throughout the year.
